About Us

In 2018, Vermont saw a wave of new gun laws — and with them, a lot of confusion, frustration, and changes in how transfers were handled. At the time, I was buying both new and used firearms and was shocked to see local shops charging up to $100 per firearm for a background check. On top of that, most operated on limited weekday hours, making it nearly impossible for working people to complete a transfer without taking time off.

That experience is what led me to start Signal Firearms — originally from my kitchen table. My goal was simple: offer affordable transfers and flexible hours so fellow gun owners could complete purchases without the hassle.

Today, Signal Firearms has outgrown the kitchen and moved into a dedicated office built in my garage. And while we’re still a small, home-based business, we’ve been quick to embrace technology to make your visit faster and easier. Unlike some other local shops, we were one of the first in Vermont to use digital 4473 forms, eliminating the need for piles of paper records. We also run electronic background checks directly from our PC — no phone calls to the FBI, no waiting while someone disappears “in the back.” The result? Most transfers are completed in under 10 minutes, compared to the 45 minutes to an hour it often takes elsewhere.

Whether you need a special order, want to join our Bulk Ammo Buy program, or just want honest advice without sales pressure, you’ll get the same friendly, neighborly service we’ve offered since day one. We may not have aisles of inventory like a big-box store, but we make up for it with personal attention, fair prices, and a genuine passion for the shooting community. If we don’t have what you need in stock — we’ll do our best to find it for you.
